Joann Howeth is the winner of multiple awards for her children’s picture books. She is a passionate speaker whose presentations are designed for student engagement. By focusing on specific concepts, her workshops are designed to hone children’s critical thinking skills and are designed for a classroom setting.
All of Joann’s presentation are designed to dovetail into elementary school Writing Unit curriculums.
What to Expect
Joann’s presentations are designed for classrooms of 30 students or less, and are formatted for utilizing her book THE MOLLYS B. either in-person or virtual, as well as writing workshops tailored for various writing levels.
Using the Mollys B.
For classes 3rd-5th, Joann’s presentation utilizes PowerPoint and lasts approximately 45 minutes (including Q&A).
For classes 1st-2nd, Joann’s presentation utilizes PowerPoint and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Virtual Visits
For classes 3rd-5th, Joann’s PowerPoint presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes (including Q&A).
For classes 1st-2nd, Joann’s presentation utilizes a slideshow and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
For Pre-K and Kindergartners, Joann’s presentation utilizes a slideshow and lasts approximately 20-25 minutes.
Writing Workshops
For classes 4th-5th, using her book THE MOLLYS B., Joann conducts a 50-minute writing workshop that focuses on the components of parallel storytelling.
For classes 2nd-3rd, with student participation, Joann conducts a 30-minute writing workshop that focuses on outlining and the natural sequence of good storytelling that includes a chance to practice with their own stories.
For Pre-K and Kindergarten, Joann reads THE MOLLYS B. with teacher or librarian assistance and concludes with a discussion about the concept of compare and contrast.

School Visit Details
Honorarium - $20.00 per presentation
Minimum of 3 presentations per school
I’ll bring my own MacBook with dual-port flash drives and will appreciate assistance with a school laptop if we run into compatibility difficulties
For Presentations in school districts outside of Helena, an honorarium includes travel expense for a mileage rate of .42¢ per mile (a .38¢ per mile teacher appreciation discount from the 2025 standard mileage rate).
